Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry in Sun Prairie, WI

We realize that not everyone enjoys coming to the dentist. While we have designed our office around patient comfort, we understand that some patients need additional help relaxing in the dental chair. Sedation dentistry is a valued solution for patients who experience dental anxiety as well as those that have special needs. At Thousand Oaks Dentistry, we proudly offer sedation dentistry for patients of all ages. We will ensure that no patient is forced to avoid important dental treatments due to their fear, anxiety or physical limitations.

Nitrous Oxide

One of the most widely-used methods of sedation dentistry is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. This involves wearing a small nosepiece during your procedure and breathing in a colorless, sweet-smelling gas. Nitrous oxide is safe for both kids and adults. It allows you to attain a state of deep relaxation during your dental treatment, yet you are still able to communicate with our staff if needed. Most importantly, there are no lingering side effects when the mask is removed. In fact, the sedative wears off within minutes, and patients are free to drive themselves home after their procedure.

Depending on your personal preference and level of anxiety, sedation dentistry can be used for routine dental cleanings as well as lengthy restorative treatments. When it comes to addressing your dental needs, we want to do everything we can to create a positive and comfortable experience. Thousand Oaks Dentistry offers sedation dentistry to help patients with the following:

  • Fear of needles or pain
  • Aversion to smells, sights and sounds of the dentist (latex, drill, etc)
  • Bad dental experience in the past
  • Severe gag reflex
  • Special needs or trouble sitting still
